TRANSITION TO ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN MOROCCO

Agriculture is a vital sector in Morocco; it contributes 13% to the gross domestic product and employs around 30% of total workforce 70% rural areas. This puts agriculture sensitive spot where affects livelihoods great proportion population. Moroccan agricultural development programs (viz. Green Morocco Plan 2008-2019 Generation 2020-2030) aim enhance farmers by focusing on valorisation small farms areas through protected geographic indications (PGI), cooperatives, organic farming. review paper describes dynamics process niche lens Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) socio-technical transitions. The MLP widely used framework that bases its analysis transitions being result interaction niches, regimes, landscape. Niches represent novelties, regimes are incumbent dominant systems, landscape includes external factors affect both niches shape their development. Results show although well established (11,000 ha land area 2019), still developing at slower rate than expected. While farming does solve many sustainability challenges faces, lacks infrastructure human capital succeed as niche. All all, first transition stages can follow multitude pathways before becoming relevant current agri-food system.
